University of Catania International Scholarships

The University of Catania offers a set of two-year scholarships attached to its English-taught Master's programmes, each worth EUR 2,000 a year — EUR 4,000 across the full Laurea Magistrale. Five awards are allocated per participating programme, across roughly ten English-taught Master's, and eligibility is stated simply as non-EU students residing abroad, which places Sri Lankan applicants squarely in scope. Be clear about the scale. EUR 2,000 a year is a contribution rather than a full ride, and it makes most sense read alongside two other facts: Italian public-university tuition is calculated on family income and is often very low for international students who file the right income documentation, and Sicily is among the cheapest places to live in Western Europe. Together those three things can make Catania one of the genuinely affordable routes to an EU Master's for a Sri Lankan graduate — but only if you do the paperwork properly, which means Universitaly pre-enrolment, attested transcripts, a Declaration of Value, and income documentation for the fee assessment. Catania is Sicily's second city, at the foot of Mount Etna, with a large old university and a growing microelectronics and technology cluster nearby.

Annual cycle — the A.Y. 2026/27 round closed 17 March 2026; the next call for 2027/28 is expected on the same annual pattern, so monitor unict.it

Through your admission application. Awards like this are usually assessed automatically from the application you already submit — there is typically no separate scholarship form to fill in.

What it covers

EUR 2,000 Per Year for Two Years (EUR 4,000 Total). This is a reduction in tuition, not a full ride. You still fund the remainder, plus living costs and the balance your visa requires you to show.

Where we come in

We make the admission application strong enough to be competitive — course choice, documents, references and deadlines. The funder makes the decision.

Non-EU Student Residing Abroad

The scholarships are for non-EU students residing abroad. Sri Lankan applicants applying from Sri Lanka meet this condition with no country shortlist to clear.

A Designated English-Taught Master's

The awards are tied to specific English-taught Laurea Magistrale programmes. Check the current list before committing — a programme outside the designated set carries no scholarship.

calendar_month

Two-Year Duration

Each scholarship runs across the two years of the Master's at EUR 2,000 a year. Continuation normally depends on maintaining enrolment and academic progress.

description

Income Documentation Cuts Your Fees

Italian public tuition is income-assessed. Sri Lankan applicants who submit the required income documentation for the fee calculation often pay far less than the headline rate — this is where the real saving sits, alongside the scholarship.

translate

English Proficiency

The programmes are taught in English and set their own language requirement. A Sri Lankan English-medium bachelor's with an MOI letter is often accepted; confirm with Catania's international office before skipping IELTS.

account_tree Application Process

1

Pick a participating English-taught Master's

Identify one of the designated programmes and check its entry requirements against your Sri Lankan bachelor's.

2

Complete Universitaly pre-enrolment and apply for admission

Pre-enrol on Universitaly and submit your admission application with attested transcripts, degree certificate, passport copy and English evidence.

3

Apply for the scholarship by the call deadline

Submit the scholarship application within the published window. Five awards are available per participating programme, so the field is small but so is the pool.

4

Get the study visa and file your income documents

Apply for the Italian type-D study visa with your admission and Universitaly documents, and submit income documentation on arrival so your tuition is assessed at the correct, income-adjusted rate.

Why the University of Catania?

Catania is one of Italy's oldest universities, in Sicily's second city at the foot of Mount Etna, with English-taught Master's across engineering, science and economics and a nearby microelectronics cluster.
