Common questions about studying in the UK

Don't see your question? WhatsApp a UK counsellor — we usually reply within the hour, weekdays.

  • What if my visa gets refused? expand_more
UK refusal rates are at multi-year lows for Sri Lankan applicants who go through licensed agents. We pre-screen every file before submission and won’t apply for you if we think it will fail — that’s why our approval rate is high.
  • Can I work while studying? expand_more
20 hours per week during term, full-time during vacations. Most Sri Lankan students earn £800–£1,400 per month in part-time roles.
  • Can my spouse come with me? expand_more
Only on a PhD or research Master’s. As of 2024, taught Master’s no longer grant dependant visas. Talk to a counsellor about which programs still qualify.
  • How long does the whole process take? expand_more
6–10 weeks from offer to visa for the September intake if you start in March. Earlier is always better — popular courses fill up fast.
  • Do I need IELTS? expand_more
Most universities require 6.0–7.0 overall, but some accept Duolingo English Test or your local English O/L with grade C+ for foundation programs.
  • How many Sri Lankan students study in the UK? expand_more
Over 15,000 Sri Lankan students are currently studying in the UK — one of the largest overseas student communities from Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka was among the fastest-growing source countries for UK Student Route visas in 2023–2024, with growth exceeding 80% year-on-year.
  • Can I get UK PR after studying there as a Sri Lankan? expand_more
The Graduate Route gives you 2 years to work in the UK (3 for PhD). From there, switch to a Skilled Worker visa (employer-sponsored), work for 5 years, and apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). Many Sri Lankan graduates follow this route — total timeline is roughly 6–7 years from start of studies.
