Yonsei Underwood International College Scholarship
Underwood International College (UIC) is Yonsei University's flagship English-taught undergraduate college — modelled on US liberal-arts colleges within a Korean research university. The UIC International Student Scholarship offers tiered tuition coverage from 30% to 100% based on academic performance, paid for 4 semesters initially with renewal in years 3-4 based on Yonsei GPA. Yonsei is one of South Korea's 'SKY' universities (Seoul National, Korea, Yonsei) — a brand that carries weight across East Asia and increasingly in global tech / consulting recruiting. UIC's English instruction means Sri Lankan applicants do not need Korean language proficiency for entry, just for daily life.

Apply to UIC Bachelor's
You must apply to one of UIC's English-taught Bachelor's programmes — Comparative Literature & Culture, Economics, Political Science & International Relations, International Studies, Life Science & Biotechnology, Nano Science & Engineering, Energy & Environmental Science, Quantitative Risk Management, Justice & Civil Leadership, and others.
Strong Academic Record
Top-tier awards (Full / 75% / 50%) typically go to applicants with A-Levels A*A*A or better (or IB 38+, SAT 1450+, top 5% national curriculum). Lower-tier awards (30%) are available for applicants with solid second-tier results. Sri Lankan A-Level applicants with 3 A's are competitive for at least the 50% tier.
International Applicant
Open to applicants who hold a non-Korean citizenship and whose parents are also non-Korean citizens (the standard 'overseas Korean / foreign national' rule). Sri Lankan citizens applying from Sri Lanka or international schools are squarely eligible.
English Proficiency
Underwood International College instruction is entirely in English. TOEFL iBT 100+, IELTS 7.0+, or English-medium curriculum waiver. Sri Lankan A-Level / IB / Edexcel candidates with strong English Literature / General English grades typically qualify for a test waiver.
account_tree Application Process
Apply to UIC by 30 April
Submit your UIC application via the Yonsei online portal (yonsei.ac.kr/ouia). Application includes school transcripts, predicted / final A-Level (or equivalent) results, personal statement, study plan, two recommendation letters, and English test (or waiver evidence).
Automatic scholarship review
Every admitted UIC international student is automatically considered for the scholarship — no separate application. The award tier is determined by the admissions committee based on academic strength and is named in the offer letter.
Accept offer + pay reduced tuition
Accept the offer in the Yonsei portal and pay the discounted first-semester tuition. The reduced amount becomes the basis for the Korean Student Visa (D-2) financial documentation.
Renewal in years 3-4
The scholarship covers years 1-2 by default. Renewal in years 3-4 is automatic provided you maintain a Yonsei GPA of 3.5/4.3+ (for the higher tiers) or 3.0/4.3+ (for the 30% tier). Renewal is reviewed at the end of year 2.
Why Yonsei UIC?
