Sogang International Undergraduate Scholarship

Sogang University offers tuition reductions of 30%, 50%, or 100% to international undergraduate applicants based on academic merit. Sogang is a private Jesuit-founded research university in central Seoul's Sinchon district, particularly strong in economics, business (Sogang Business School), engineering, communications, and Korean studies. Sri Lankan students applying to Sogang's English-taught undergraduate tracks (or with TOPIK Level 3+ for Korean-taught tracks) are automatically considered. The 100% tier (covering tuition of approximately KRW 8M per semester = LKR 1.8M per semester) is reserved for the strongest applicants — typically those with A/L results equivalent to a 4.0+ CGPA on Sogang's conversion scale.

International Undergraduate Applicant

You must be applying to Sogang as a first-year undergraduate (Spring or Fall intake). Sogang accepts A/L results, IB Diploma, SAT/ACT, and equivalent qualifications. Korean citizens (including dual nationals) apply via separate Korean-citizen routes.

Top award tier (100% tuition) typically requires 3 As at A/L or IB 38+/45. Mid-tier (50%) for 2 As + 1 B or equivalent. Lower tier (30%) for solid 3 Bs equivalent. Conversion is at Sogang's discretion.

Choose intake + apply online

Sogang has two intakes: Spring (March) and Fall (September). Apply via the Sogang Office of International Affairs online portal by the published deadline (late September for Spring; late April for Fall).

Submit application documents

Required: application form, transcripts (A/L statement + school transcript), statement of purpose, two recommendations, copy of passport, financial certificate showing sufficient funds for one year (~USD 18,000), and English/Korean test scores.

Automatic merit review

Sogang Admissions reviews all applications for both admission and scholarship simultaneously. No interview is typically required for undergraduate scholarship consideration — purely document-based.

Offer letter + Korean visa

Successful applicants receive an offer letter specifying the scholarship tier. Use the offer + Certificate of Admission to apply for the D-2 Korean Student Visa at the Embassy of Korea in Colombo. Sogang's International Office provides arrival support.

Why Sogang?

Sogang University was founded in 1960 by the Jesuit order and remains one of Korea's most internationally-oriented private universities. With around 12,000 students at a compact central Seoul campus, it offers a stronger small-class experience than larger Korean universities like Yonsei or Korea University. Sogang's Economics, Business, and International Studies programmes are taught extensively in English, making it accessible to Sri Lankan applicants without TOPIK proficiency.
