Stockholm University International Scholarship
Stockholm University International Scholarships are full tuition fee waivers for outstanding non-EU/EEA students starting a Master's at Stockholm University. The award covers the full tuition fee for the duration of the Master's programme (typically SEK 90,000 – SEK 145,000 per year, or LKR 2.8M – 4.5M, depending on programme). Around 60-70 awards are made annually across the university — making Stockholm one of the more accessible Scandinavian options for Sri Lankan applicants. Sweden's post-study landscape is excellent — graduates can extend their residence permit for up to 12 months to find work, and Stockholm has a vibrant tech / fintech / sustainability sector (Spotify, Klarna, King, Northvolt) that actively recruits international Master's grads.

fact_check Eligibility Criteria
Apply to Stockholm Master's by 15 January
You must apply to a Stockholm University Master's via universityadmissions.se by 15 January 2026 (the central Swedish national Master's deadline). Eligible programmes include Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, International Business, Public International Law, Political Science, and Environmental Sciences — most English-taught Master's qualify.
First-Class Bachelor's
Stockholm University Scholarships are reserved for applicants in the top 10-15% of their Bachelor's cohort. For Sri Lankan applicants this means a first-class honours degree from Colombo, Moratuwa, Peradeniya, Kelaniya, Sabaragamuwa, SLIIT, or NSBM — ideally with a strong thesis grade and any academic prizes.
Non-EU/EEA Citizen
Reserved for non-EU/EEA citizens who pay overseas tuition fees. Sri Lankan citizens applying from Sri Lanka are squarely eligible. EU/EEA students pay no tuition in Sweden and have separate funding pathways.
English Proficiency
Meet Stockholm University's standard English requirement — typically equivalent to 'Swedish English 6' / IELTS 6.5+ overall (with at least 5.5 in each component) or TOEFL iBT 90+. Sri Lankan applicants with English-medium undergraduate degrees may qualify via MOI waiver.

Apply via universityadmissions.se by 15 January
Submit your Master's application through the central Swedish admissions portal (universityadmissions.se) by 15 January 2026. You can list up to 4 Master's programme choices in priority order — Stockholm University programmes can be any of those choices.
Submit scholarship application by 21 January
Within the Stockholm University Scholarship portal (separate from universityadmissions.se), complete the scholarship application by 21 January 2026. Submit a 1-page motivation letter, full CV, and any supplementary academic prizes / publications.
Admissions + scholarship review
Stockholm University's admissions decisions are released via universityadmissions.se in late March. Scholarship outcomes are released separately in early April. The scholarship is contingent on accepting the admission offer to Stockholm University as your first-choice programme.
Acceptance + Swedish residence permit
Awardees accept the scholarship within 10 days of notification. Stockholm University then issues the formal acceptance documents for the Swedish residence permit application via Migrationsverket — typically processed in 6-8 weeks for Sri Lankan applicants.
