Chalmers IPOET Scholarship
The Chalmers IPOET Scholarship (International Programme Office for Education and Training) is a major partial-tuition award for non-EU/EEA Master's students at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden's leading technical university. The scholarship covers 75% of the tuition fee — full Chalmers Master's tuition is approximately SEK 280,000 for the two-year programme (LKR 8.9M), so the 75% waiver saves approximately SEK 210,000 (LKR 6.7M). The remaining 25% is paid by the student. Around 50-60 IPOET awards are made annually across Chalmers' Master's programmes — which span all engineering disciplines, architecture, computer science, and applied physics. Sri Lankan applicants from Moratuwa Engineering, Peradeniya, or strong international engineering programmes are exceptionally well-suited to Chalmers.

Chalmers Master's Application
You must be applying for a Chalmers Master's programme. Chalmers offers Master's in mechanical, electrical, civil, chemical, environmental engineering; computer science; data science; sustainable energy; architecture; applied physics; and related fields. All taught in English.
Non-EU/EEA Nationality
Open to non-EU/EEA international students paying overseas tuition. Sri Lankan citizens applying from Sri Lanka are eligible. EU/EEA students pay no Chalmers tuition and have separate Swedish funding routes.
Strong Engineering Background
First-class or strong second-upper Bachelor's degree in engineering, applied science, computer science, or related quantitative field. For Sri Lankan applicants: a Moratuwa Engineering CGPA of 3.3+/4.0 or first-class is the typical baseline. Strong projects, internships, or research output strengthen applications.
English Proficiency
Required: IELTS 6.5+ (no band below 5.5) or TOEFL iBT 90+. Sri Lankan applicants with English-medium engineering degrees can request an MOI-letter waiver — Chalmers accepts these where the issuing university confirms full English-medium instruction.
account_tree Application Process
Apply via universityadmissions.se
All Chalmers Master's applications go through the centralised universityadmissions.se portal. Application opens mid-October 2026, closes 15 January 2027 for Autumn intake. Application fee SEK 900. Pay this fee even if hoping to qualify for the IPOET (the application fee is not refunded by IPOET).
Submit IPOET application separately
Within 2 weeks after the Master's application deadline (deadline 1 February 2027), submit the IPOET scholarship application via the Chalmers portal. Required: scholarship motivation letter, statement of why you should be funded, and confirmation of Master's application.
Selection by Chalmers + IPOET Committee
The Chalmers IPOET Committee reviews scholarship applications alongside Master's admissions decisions. Awards are typically confirmed in April. Selection considers academic record, motivation, and (secondary) country balance to maintain global diversity.
Acceptance + Swedish residence permit
IPOET awards are confirmed alongside Master's admission. Use the offer + IPOET confirmation + living-cost proof to apply for the Swedish residence permit at the Swedish Embassy in New Delhi (Sri Lankan applicants apply via Delhi consular district).
