NUS Science & Technology Undergraduate Scholarship

The Science & Technology (S&T) Undergraduate Scholarship is one of NUS's freshmen awards aimed specifically at outstanding students from across Asia, excluding Singapore citizens — a definition Sri Lankan applicants sit squarely inside. The package covers subsidised tuition fees, meaning the fee remaining after the MOE Tuition Grant, plus an annual living allowance of SGD 6,000 (roughly LKR 1.44 million), an annual accommodation allowance of SGD 4,992 (about LKR 1.2 million) and a one-off computer allowance of SGD 1,750. Taken together, that turns NUS — consistently among the top handful of universities in Asia — into a realistic proposition for a Sri Lankan family that could not otherwise consider it. There is no separate scholarship application. Candidates are considered and shortlisted through their normal undergraduate admission applications to NUS, so your entire scholarship case is made in your admission file: A/L or international qualification results, your programme choice, and whatever the admissions process asks of you. Two things need saying plainly. This is extremely competitive — NUS receives applications from across Asia for a limited number of awards, and only the strongest science and engineering candidates are shortlisted. And because the award covers subsidised tuition, it is built on top of the MOE Tuition Grant, which carries a three-year obligation to work for a Singapore-registered employer after graduation. Understand and accept that bond before you accept the scholarship. Flights to and from Sri Lanka, personal expenses beyond the allowances, and insurance are not covered.

Considered automatically through NUS undergraduate admission for the August intake. International applications typically open in the preceding autumn and close in the first months of the year — confirm dates on nus.edu.sg/oam

How you are considered

Through your admission application. Awards like this are usually assessed automatically from the application you already submit — there is typically no separate scholarship form to fill in.

payments

What it covers

Subsidised Tuition + SGD 6,000 Living + SGD 4,992 Accommodation Allowance. This is a reduction in tuition, not a full ride. You still fund the remainder, plus living costs and the balance your visa requires you to show.

Where we come in

We make the admission application strong enough to be competitive — course choice, documents, references and deadlines. The funder makes the decision.

The award covers subsidised tuition, that is the fee after the MOE Tuition Grant. Taking the grant commits international students to a three-year bond working for a Singapore-registered employer after graduation.

account_tree Application Process

1

Apply for NUS undergraduate admission

Apply through the NUS Office of Admissions in the international applicant round, listing science or technology programme choices. Submit your A/L results or equivalent international qualification with your application.

2

Present the strongest possible academic file

Shortlisting is done from the admission application, so results, subject combination and any olympiad, research or technical achievements are what carry your case. There is no essay round to rescue a weak profile.

3

Complete any shortlisting steps

Shortlisted candidates may be asked to interview or supply further documentation. Respond promptly — NUS timelines are tight.

4

Accept the award and the Tuition Grant together

Apply for the MOE Tuition Grant through tgs.moe.gov.sg as instructed and sign the Tuition Grant Agreement with sureties. Read the three-year bond terms carefully before signing.

5

Apply for your Student's Pass

Once enrolled, apply for the Singapore Student's Pass through ICA's SOLAR system using the details NUS provides. Budget separately for flights and personal expenses.
