NTU Nanyang Scholarship

The Nanyang Scholarship is NTU's most prestigious undergraduate award and one of the very few full-ride scholarships in Asia that carries no service bond — recipients are free to work anywhere after graduation. The package covers tuition in full plus a living allowance, an accommodation allowance, and support for an overseas exchange or attachment programme. Selection is exceptionally competitive and looks beyond grades: leadership record, co-curricular achievement, community contribution and performance at interview all carry weight. NTU is consistently ranked among the world's top 15 universities and is particularly strong in engineering, computing, materials science and business. For Sri Lankan A-Level students with outstanding results and a genuine leadership record, this is one of the highest-value awards realistically within reach, and Singapore's proximity keeps travel and family visits affordable.

Leadership and Co-Curricular Record

The scholarship explicitly weighs leadership positions, sporting or artistic achievement, olympiad performance, and community contribution. Grades alone do not win it.

Interview and Selection Test

Shortlisted candidates go through interviews and, for some awards, a selection exercise. International candidates are normally interviewed online.

Open to All Nationalities

Sri Lankan applicants compete on the same footing. Unlike several Singapore government-linked awards, the Nanyang Scholarship carries no bond requiring you to work in Singapore afterwards.

1

Apply for NTU undergraduate admission

Submit the undergraduate application through NTU's admissions portal within the international application window, listing your programme choices in order of preference.

2

Indicate scholarship interest

The scholarship application is made alongside or immediately after the admission application. Check the NTU scholarships page for the exact mechanism in your admission year — it changes periodically.

3

Prepare the supporting record

  • Certified A-Level or IB results and school transcripts
  • Evidence of leadership roles, prefectship, society positions
  • Certificates for olympiads, sport, music, debating or community work
  • Referee letters from school leadership
4

Interview

Prepare to discuss your intended field substantively, your leadership experience with specific examples, and why NTU rather than a generic top-university answer.

5

Student pass and arrival

Apply for the Singapore Student's Pass through the ICA SOLAR system once you hold the offer. Processing is comparatively fast, and the award letter simplifies the financial evidence.

Why NTU?

Nanyang Technological University is consistently placed among the world's top 15 universities and among the top 5 for engineering and materials science. Its 200-hectare Jurong campus is one of the most extensive in Asia, and NTU sits at the centre of Singapore's research ecosystem alongside A*STAR, with deep industry links to Rolls-Royce, Delta Electronics, Continental and the Singapore technology sector.
