Massey International Excellence Scholarship
The Massey International Excellence Scholarship is Massey University's flagship merit award for incoming international Master's students — a one-off tuition reduction of NZD 10,000 to NZD 20,000 (LKR 1.9M to LKR 3.8M) applied to first-year tuition. Massey is New Zealand's distance-learning leader and a top university in agriculture, veterinary science, food technology, business (Massey Business School is AACSB-accredited), and aviation. With three campuses (Palmerston North, Manawatū; Auckland Albany; Wellington), it offers Sri Lankan applicants more affordable living than Auckland-based universities. Offer for a Massey Master's
You must hold a conditional or unconditional offer for a full-time Master's by coursework at Massey. PhD candidates apply separately for the Massey Doctoral Scholarship.
International Fee Status
Open to international students paying overseas fees. Sri Lankan citizens applying from Sri Lanka are eligible. New Zealand citizens, residents, and Australian citizens are not.
Strong Academic Record
First-class or strong second-upper Bachelor's degree from a recognised university. For Sri Lankan applicants, a CGPA of 3.3+/4.0 or first-class honours from Colombo, Peradeniya, Moratuwa, or a recognised private university is typical.
English Proficiency
Meet Massey's standard English requirement — typically IELTS 6.5 overall (no band below 6.0). Sri Lankan applicants with English-medium degrees can request an MOI-letter waiver subject to Massey's verification.

Apply to Massey first
Submit your Massey postgraduate application via the online portal. You don't need a confirmed offer to submit the scholarship application, but you must have applied for the Master's.
Submit the scholarship application
Complete the International Excellence Scholarship application via the Massey scholarships portal. Required: short personal statement (500 words), academic CV, and proof of your Master's application. Submit by 1 October (Semester 1) or 1 May (Semester 2).
Selection by faculty
Each Massey faculty (Business, Agriculture, Sciences, Arts) reviews scholarship applications and ranks candidates. Awards are typically notified within 4-6 weeks of the deadline.
Accept + NZ student visa
Accept your Master's offer and the scholarship through the Massey portal. The NZD 10-20k discount is applied to first-year tuition. Use your offer letter + financial documents to apply for the NZ Student Visa at INZ Colombo / online.
