AUT International Postgraduate Scholarship

The AUT International Postgraduate Scholarship provides a one-off tuition reduction of NZD 5,000 to NZD 10,000 (LKR 950k – 1.9M) for international students starting a taught postgraduate programme at Auckland University of Technology. There is no separate scholarship application form — every eligible offer-holder is automatically considered. New Zealand allows international postgraduate students to bring a partner on an open work visa and qualify for a 3-year post-study work visa after a 2-year Master's, making the AUT package strongly attractive to Sri Lankan applicants in Engineering, IT, Business, Hospitality, and Health Sciences.

Strong Undergraduate Record

AUT typically requires a Bachelor's degree with a GPA equivalent to 5.0/9.0 on the NZ scale (around 60-65% / second-upper for Sri Lankan applicants). Higher entry standards apply for selected MBA, Computer Science, and Health Science programmes.

public

International Fee Status

Open to international students paying overseas tuition. Sri Lankan citizens are eligible. The award stacks on top of any agent-led discounts but does not stack with other AUT scholarships.

English Proficiency

Meet AUT's standard English requirement — typically IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0 (7.0 for Teaching, 7.5 for Nursing). Sri Lankan applicants with English-medium degrees may submit an MOI letter to waive the IELTS requirement for some programmes.

account_tree Application Process

1

Apply to AUT postgrad

Submit your AUT application via the online portal (apply.aut.ac.nz) or through an authorised AUT representative in Sri Lanka. Aim to apply 3-4 months before the intake to allow time for offer + visa processing.

2

Automatic scholarship review

Every international postgraduate offer-holder is automatically assessed for the scholarship. The award value (NZD 5,000 or NZD 10,000) is determined by your academic record and is communicated in your offer letter.

3

Accept offer + pay deposit

Accept the offer in the applicant portal and pay the NZD deposit by the deadline stated in the offer (typically 4-6 weeks before programme start). This triggers your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) for the New Zealand student visa.

4

Receive discount at enrolment

The scholarship is applied as a direct reduction on your first-semester tuition invoice at AUT enrolment. The discounted figure is then used for your final visa funds evidence.

Why AUT?

AUT is New Zealand's third-largest university and is consistently ranked in the global top 350 (QS #399 in 2026). It's known for industry-applied teaching and a particularly diverse international cohort — around 30% of postgraduates are international. The City campus is at the heart of central Auckland, walking distance to the harbour.
