Mälardalen University Scholarship for International Students

Mälardalen University (MDU), with campuses in Västerås and Eskilstuna near Stockholm, offers tuition-fee scholarships to talented fee-paying international students — including Sri Lankans — on its English-taught Master's programmes. MDU is known for close collaboration with industry (notably in embedded systems, automation, engineering, and innovation), and is the only Swedish university accredited by AACSB in the field of business. A scholarship can cover part or the full tuition fee, making a research-linked Swedish Master's affordable. For Sri Lankan engineering and business graduates wanting strong industry connections in a high-quality, English-friendly setting close to Stockholm, MDU is a practical option. Awards are merit-based and assessed alongside admission.

Annual cycle — scholarship application typically follows the January Master's admission round for the autumn intake

How you are considered

Through your admission application. Awards like this are usually assessed automatically from the application you already submit — there is typically no separate scholarship form to fill in.

What it covers

Partial to Full Tuition Fee Waiver (Master's). This is a reduction in tuition, not a full ride. You still fund the remainder, plus living costs and the balance your visa requires you to show.

Looking for a scholarship because of the cost?

Then start here instead. Scholarships are competitive, usually partial, and decided by someone else — they are the least reliable way to make studying abroad affordable. Your destination and course choice move the number far more, and both are entirely within your control.
