Kristianstad University Scholarship
Kristianstad University (Högskolan Kristianstad) is a public university in Skåne, in Sweden's far south, about an hour from Malmö and within easy reach of Copenhagen. It offers a number of tuition-fee scholarships each year to students who must pay fees in Sweden, and the reduction normally covers between 50 and 100 per cent of the tuition. Two things make this award unusually approachable for Sri Lankan applicants. First, it is merit-based with no financial-need component, so you are assessed on your academic record rather than on documenting family income. Second, applicants are considered on the basis of the admission application itself — there is no long separate essay competition to win, though you must make sure every supporting document reaches universityadmissions.se before the documentation cut-off, because merits and documents submitted after the university's stated date are not counted. Kristianstad's English-taught offer is strongest in business, food and health sciences, and computer science. It is a smaller institution than Lund or Malmö, which usually means a shorter queue for the scholarship and more contact time with teaching staff.

info How this award actually works
Who awards it
Kristianstad University (Högskolan Kristianstad) — not Lanka Scholar. We are not the awarding body and cannot grant, reserve or guarantee this award.
How you are considered
Through your admission application. Awards like this are usually assessed automatically from the application you already submit — there is typically no separate scholarship form to fill in.
What it covers
50% to 100% Tuition Fee Reduction. This is a reduction in tuition, not a full ride. You still fund the remainder, plus living costs and the balance your visa requires you to show.
Where we come in
We make the admission application strong enough to be competitive — course choice, documents, references and deadlines. The funder makes the decision.
fact_check Eligibility Criteria
Fee-Paying Non-EU/EEA Student
Open to students from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland who are required to pay tuition. Sri Lankan citizens qualify on nationality with no additional country list to clear.
Admission to a Kristianstad Programme
You must be an applicant to a programme at Kristianstad University. The scholarship attaches to your admission, so the strength of your application is what decides the award.
Merit, Not Need
There is no financial-need element. Assessment is on academic merit, so a strong Sri Lankan bachelor's or A/L profile with attested transcripts is what you are competing on.
Documentation Cut-Off Is Strict
Merits and documents submitted after the university's stated cut-off date are excluded from the assessment. Get transcripts attested and uploaded early rather than in the final week.
English Proficiency
Swedish entry requires English 6 for Master's or English B/6 for Bachelor's, roughly IELTS 6.5 with no band under 5.5. Sri Lankan applicants from English-medium degrees may be able to use an MOI letter instead of a test — confirm with Kristianstad admissions.
account_tree Application Process
Apply via universityadmissions.se
Submit your application to a Kristianstad University programme in Sweden's national admissions round and pay the application fee.
Upload every supporting document early
Attested transcripts, degree or A/L certificates, passport copy and English evidence must be in before the documentation cut-off. Anything late is simply not assessed for the scholarship.
Automatic scholarship consideration
Eligible fee-paying applicants are considered for the tuition-fee reduction on the basis of the admission application. Check hkr.se in case a supplementary step is added for your intake.
Accept, pay the balance, and apply for the residence permit
Accept your place, pay any remaining tuition after the reduction, and apply to Migrationsverket for the student residence permit with proof of maintenance funds.
Why Kristianstad University?
Kristianstad is a compact public university in southern Sweden with practical, employment-focused programmes in business, health, food science and computing, and a scholarship scheme that can wipe out the entire tuition fee for the strongest applicants. Its size means more staff contact than at Sweden's large research universities.

Looking for a scholarship because of the cost?
Then start here instead. Scholarships are competitive, usually partial, and decided by someone else — they are the least reliable way to make studying abroad affordable. Your destination and course choice move the number far more, and both are entirely within your control.
