Karlstad University Global Scholarship
Karlstad University, set beside Lake Vänern in central Sweden, offers tuition-fee scholarships to talented non-EU/EEA students admitted to its English-taught Master's programmes. Awards range from partial to full tuition coverage and are decided on academic merit within the admission and scholarship process. Karlstad is a mid-sized, welcoming university with recognised strengths in service research (its Service Research Center is internationally known), business, computer science, engineering, and the environmental and social sciences. For Sri Lankan students, it offers a realistic funded pathway into a Swedish Master's outside the ultra-competitive national schemes, in a green, affordable university city. Exact scholarship coverage, number of awards and deadlines are set each intake, so confirm the current terms for your programme on the Karlstad University website.

info How this award actually works
Who awards it
Karlstad University — not Lanka Scholar. We are not the awarding body and cannot grant, reserve or guarantee this award.
How you are considered
Through your admission application. Awards like this are usually assessed automatically from the application you already submit — there is typically no separate scholarship form to fill in.
What it covers
Partial to Full Tuition-Fee Scholarship. This is a reduction in tuition, not a full ride. You still fund the remainder, plus living costs and the balance your visa requires you to show.
Where we come in
We make the admission application strong enough to be competitive — course choice, documents, references and deadlines. The funder makes the decision.
fact_check Eligibility Criteria
Non-EU/EEA Applicant
Open to fee-paying non-EU/EEA students, including Sri Lankan nationals, who are required to pay tuition in Sweden. Check the current call for exact conditions.
Admission to an English-taught Master's
You must apply to, and be admissible for, an eligible Karlstad English-taught Master's through the Swedish national application system. The scholarship attaches to admission.
Academic Merit
Scholarships are awarded on academic record and programme relevance. A first-class or upper-second Bachelor's from a recognised Sri Lankan university is competitive.
English Proficiency
English-taught Master's require IELTS ~6.5 ('English 6' equivalent). Sri Lankan applicants from English-medium degrees may qualify via an accepted MOI/exemption route — confirm with Karlstad admissions.

Looking for a scholarship because of the cost?
Then start here instead. Scholarships are competitive, usually partial, and decided by someone else — they are the least reliable way to make studying abroad affordable. Your destination and course choice move the number far more, and both are entirely within your control.
