University of Vaasa Scholarship for International Students
The University of Vaasa, on Finland's west coast, is a focused business, technology, and administrative-sciences university and the hub of the EnergyVaasa cluster — the Nordics' largest energy-technology concentration. For non-EU/EEA students admitted to its English-taught Master's programmes, Vaasa offers tuition-fee scholarships covering full or partial tuition, with some awards adding a first-year living grant. The scholarship is decided on academic merit as part of admission. Vaasa's Master's in fields such as Finance, Strategic Business Development, Industrial Management, Smart Energy, and Software Engineering connect closely to its surrounding industry. For Sri Lankan students, a strong upper-second or first-class Bachelor's in a relevant field is the realistic baseline. The waiver tiers, grant amounts, and which programmes include a living grant are set each year, so confirm the current terms for your programme.

Non-EU/EEA Citizen
For citizens of countries outside the EU/EEA liable for tuition. Sri Lankan citizens are eligible. EU/EEA students study tuition-free and do not use this scheme.
Academic Merit
Selection is merit-based from your Master's application. A first-class or strong upper-second Bachelor's from a recognised Sri Lankan university in a relevant discipline, with good core grades, is the competitive baseline.
Admission to an Eligible Master's
You must be admitted to a Vaasa English-taught Master's participating in the scheme. The waiver attaches to admission — normally there is no separate scholarship application.
English Proficiency
Typically IELTS Academic 6.5 (no section below 5.5) or TOEFL iBT 92. Sri Lankan applicants from English-medium degree programmes may qualify via an MOI/exemption route — check Vaasa's language page for your programme.
account_tree Application Process
Apply to the Master's via Studyinfo / Vaasa
Submit your Master's application in the national application round Vaasa uses, with transcripts, degree certificate, CV, motivation letter, and English evidence. The non-EU round usually closes in January.
Automatic scholarship assessment
For most programmes the tuition scholarship is assessed automatically from the same application. Check your programme page in case a tick-box or extra statement is required.
Admission + scholarship decision
Admission results are released in spring; the scholarship outcome (full/partial and any living grant) is communicated with or shortly after the offer.
Accept and apply for the residence permit
Accept your place, then apply for the Finnish student residence permit via Migri, showing your offer, scholarship letter, and the funds required for costs not covered by the waiver.
