Aalto University Science & Technology Scholarship
Aalto University, formed from Finland's leading technology, business, and art schools, is the country's top university for engineering and design and a global name in technology. For non-EU/EEA students admitted to its English-taught Master's programmes, Aalto offers tuition-waiver scholarships of 50% or 100%, and the strongest admitted applicants in science and technology fields may also receive a EUR 8,000 relocation/living grant for the first year. The scholarship is assessed automatically from your Master's application on academic merit — there is no separate scholarship form for most programmes. For Sri Lankan applicants, Aalto is highly competitive: a first-class engineering or science degree from Moratuwa, Peradeniya, Colombo, or a strong SLIIT/NSBM record, plus relevant projects, makes a credible case. Confirm the exact waiver and grant terms for your programme, as percentages and grant availability are set by Aalto each year.

Non-EU/EEA Citizen
Tuition fees and these waivers apply to citizens of countries outside the EU/EEA. Sri Lankan citizens are eligible. EU/EEA students study free and do not use this scheme.
Outstanding Academic Merit
Selection is on academic merit from your Master's application. Aalto is highly selective in engineering, computer science, and science — a first-class or strong upper-second Bachelor's from a recognised Sri Lankan university, with relevant coursework and projects, is the competitive baseline.
Admission to an Eligible Master's
You must be admitted to an Aalto English-taught Master's programme that participates in the scholarship scheme (the science and technology / SCI, ELEC, ENG, CHEM schools and similar). The waiver attaches to admission.
English Proficiency
IELTS Academic 6.5 (no section below 5.5) or TOEFL iBT 92, with some programmes setting higher bars. Sri Lankan applicants with English-medium degrees may qualify via an MOI/exemption route — check Aalto's English-requirement page.
account_tree Application Process
Apply to the Master's via Studyinfo / Aalto
Submit your Master's application in the national Studyinfo round used by Aalto, with transcripts, degree certificate, CV, statement of purpose, and English evidence. The non-EU round usually closes in early January.
Automatic scholarship assessment
For most programmes the scholarship is assessed automatically from the same application — admitted non-EU applicants are considered on merit. Check your programme page in case it requires a tick-box or short statement.
Admission + scholarship decision
Aalto issues admission results in spring; the scholarship decision (50%, 100%, and any EUR 8,000 grant) is communicated alongside or shortly after the offer.
Accept and apply for the residence permit
Accept your place, then apply for the Finnish student residence permit via Migri, showing your offer, scholarship letter, and the required funds for living costs not covered by the waiver.
