UCL Global Masters Scholarship
The UCL Global Masters Scholarship supports talented international students from developing countries who would otherwise struggle to fund a master's at UCL. Sri Lanka is on the eligible-country list, and around 30 scholarships of £15,000 each are awarded annually across all UCL master's programmes. The award is paid as a stipend (towards fees or living costs), and is combined with financial-need assessment — making it one of the more genuinely accessible UCL funding routes for Sri Lankan postgraduate applicants.

From an Eligible Country
You must be from a country on UCL's eligible-country list (Sri Lanka is included). Eligibility is based on permanent home country, not citizenship.
Hold a UCL Master's Offer
You must have applied to (or hold an offer for) an eligible full-time master's programme at UCL for September entry. Most taught and research master's are eligible; some self-funded MBA-style courses are excluded.
Strong Academic Record
Equivalent of a UK upper second-class (2:1) honours degree — typically a first-class or strong second-upper from a Sri Lankan university.
Demonstrated Financial Need
The application includes a financial-need section. Sri Lankan applicants are assessed against income brackets and family circumstances — household income should be in the lower-to-mid range for UCL's international applicant pool.
account_tree Application Process
Apply to a UCL master's programme
Submit your master's application via the UCL online portal. You must have a UCL application reference number before you can apply for the scholarship.
Complete the scholarship form by late April
From December 2025, log into the UCL Scholarship Application Portal and complete the Global Masters Scholarship section — personal statement, financial-need declaration, and academic justification. Main deadline is typically late April 2026 for September entry.
Departmental + central review
Your department reviews your academic suitability. Central UCL Scholarships then reviews financial need and ranks candidates against other eligible-country applicants.
Award notification by June
Outcomes are issued by email in late May or June. Scholarship funds are disbursed in two instalments after registration in September.
Why UCL?
UCL is consistently ranked in the world top 10, with the largest postgraduate cohort of any UK university. Sri Lankan postgraduates at UCL have access to an active student society and alumni network in both London and Colombo.
