Tampere University International Scholarship
Tampere University offers two-tier International Scholarships — 50% or 100% tuition waivers — to outstanding non-EU/EEA Master's applicants. Tampere's Master's tuition for non-EU students is EUR 10,000-14,000/year, so the 100% waiver represents a major saving of up to EUR 28,000 across the 2-year programme (LKR 9.7M). Note: this scholarship covers tuition ONLY — students need separate funding for living costs (~EUR 800/month minimum, which is the Finnish Immigration Service's required residence permit financial threshold). Tampere is Finland's second-largest university, particularly strong in engineering, IT, health sciences, education, and management. Located in central Finland in the historic industrial city of Tampere. Sri Lankan applicants with strong technical or research backgrounds find Tampere an accessible Nordic Master's option.

Tampere Master's Application
You must be applying to or admitted to one of Tampere's English-taught Master's programmes. Tampere offers ~25 English-taught Master's in engineering, IT, biomedical sciences, education, management, public health, and other fields. PhD candidates apply via separate Tampere doctoral funding.
Non-EU/EEA Nationality
Open only to non-EU/EEA citizens. Sri Lankan citizens applying from Sri Lanka are eligible. EU/EEA citizens do not pay Finnish tuition fees and are not eligible for this scholarship.
Strong Academic Record
Top tier (100% waiver) typically requires a first-class Bachelor's degree (CGPA 3.5+/4.0). 50% tier for strong second-upper (CGPA 3.0-3.5). Tampere also values relevant research experience and clearly articulated motivation.
English Proficiency
Required: IELTS 6.5+ (no band below 5.5) or TOEFL iBT 92+ for most programmes. Sri Lankan applicants with English-medium degrees may qualify for the MOI-letter waiver — Tampere accepts these where the issuing university confirms full English-medium instruction.
account_tree Application Process
Apply via Studyinfo.fi
All Finnish Master's applications go through the centralised Studyinfo.fi portal. Applications open early December 2026; Round 1 closes 19 January 2027. Apply to Tampere as your preferred institution and specify the desired Master's programme.
Submit application materials
Required: Bachelor's transcripts (translated to English), IELTS/TOEFL, motivation letter, two references, CV. Some programmes (Engineering, IT) may require GRE or programming portfolios. Submit documents by the specified deadline (typically 2 weeks after the application deadline).
Automatic scholarship consideration
All admitted non-EU/EEA students are automatically reviewed for the International Scholarship. There is no separate scholarship application. The award tier (50% or 100%) is determined by holistic profile review.
Acceptance + Finnish residence permit
Admission and scholarship decisions are communicated in March-April. Successful applicants accept the offer via the Tampere portal. Apply for the Finnish student residence permit via the Migri (Finnish Immigration Service) online portal — process takes 1-3 months.
Why Tampere?
Tampere University was formed in 2019 from the merger of the University of Tampere and Tampere University of Technology, creating Finland's second-largest university (after Helsinki). The combined institution is particularly strong in engineering, signal processing, computer science (Nokia historically had its main R&D campus in Tampere), biomedical research, and education. The city of Tampere is Finland's third-largest, with a vibrant student culture, lakeside setting, and the country's longest sauna tradition.
