Savonia UAS Tuition Fee Scholarships

Savonia in Kuopio and Iisalmi charges non-EU/EEA Bachelor's students EUR 9,700 an academic year, but almost no one who plans properly pays that figure. Applicants through Finland's joint application system who confirm their place within 7 days and pay within 14 days of acceptance pay EUR 7,760 for the first year — a saving of EUR 1,940, or about LKR 669,000. Students admitted through direct or separate application routes pay EUR 7,760 as standard, with a EUR 3,880 rate for spring semester starts, in both cases due within 14 days of admission. From the second year onward, completing 60 credits in the previous year earns a base scholarship of 20%, again bringing the annual fee to EUR 7,760. On top of that, an additional 10% reduction cuts the fee to EUR 6,790 for students who reach specified Finnish language levels: A2.1 for year two, B1.1 for year three and B1.2 for year four. Master's programmes at Savonia carry a fee of EUR 10,500 a year. The important limitations are worth spelling out. First-year tuition cannot be paid in instalments, so you need the full EUR 7,760 available as a single transfer within a very short window after admission — this is the most common reason students lose the discount. Scholarships only cover the statutory duration of study, so falling behind and extending your degree means paying full price for the extra time. Late payment costs you your study place outright, not just the discount. And, as everywhere in Finland, none of this touches living costs, insurance, flights or the residence permit; budget roughly EUR 700-900 a month for Kuopio.

Apply through Finland's joint application system (Studyinfo) in January for the autumn intake; direct and separate application routes run to their own timetables. Current fee levels apply to students starting from the 2026 intake onward — confirm current rates on savonia.fi.

What it covers

EUR 7,760 Early Bird Fee + 20-30% Annual Scholarship from Year Two. This is a reduction in tuition, not a full ride. You still fund the remainder, plus living costs and the balance your visa requires you to show.

Where we come in

We make the admission application strong enough to be competitive — course choice, documents, references and deadlines. The funder makes the decision.

An additional 10% reduction, bringing the fee to EUR 6,790, requires reaching Finnish A2.1 by year two, B1.1 by year three and B1.2 by year four.

account_tree Application Process

1

Apply through Studyinfo or the direct route

Savonia's English-taught degrees are applied for through Finland's joint application portal in January, with direct and separate application routes available for some programmes on their own timetables.

2

Have the full EUR 7,760 ready before results

First-year tuition cannot be paid in instalments and the window after admission is 14 days. Arrange foreign exchange and Central Bank remittance clearance in advance — this is where most students lose the discount.

3

Confirm and pay within the deadline

Confirm your study place within 7 days and complete payment within 14 days. Late payment results in loss of the study place, not just the discount.

4

Maintain 60 credits a year and start Finnish

  • 60 credits in the previous year unlocks the 20% scholarship
  • Finnish A2.1 by year two adds a further 10%
  • Aim for B1.1 by year three and B1.2 by year four to keep it
5

Apply for the Finnish residence permit

Apply through Migri with your admission letter, tuition receipt, proof of living funds and health insurance as soon as your place is confirmed.

Why Savonia?

Savonia is one of Finland's largest universities of applied sciences, based in Kuopio in the eastern lakeland with a second campus in Iisalmi. Its strengths are engineering, health care, business and hospitality, and Kuopio's living costs sit well below those of Helsinki or Espoo.
