SAMK Success in Studies Scholarship

SAMK sits on Finland's west coast in Pori, Rauma, Huittinen and Kankaanpää, and it offers one of the most substantial performance-based tuition refunds in the Finnish applied-sciences sector. Non-EU/EEA students pay EUR 9,500 a year for most English-taught programmes — International Business, Tourism Management, Logistics, Nursing, Physiotherapy and several Master's degrees — or EUR 10,500 for Data Engineering (AI), Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics. The Success in Studies Scholarship then refunds 50% of that tuition after each year of study, which is worth roughly EUR 4,750-5,250, or LKR 1.64-1.81 million a year. The conditions are demanding and you should read them carefully before counting on the money: you must complete a full 60 ECTS credits in the year, hold a weighted grade average of 3.5 or above, and rank among the best fifth of students in your whole degree programme. That last clause is the hard one — it is a relative ranking, so strong absolute performance is not enough if your cohort is strong too. New Bachelor's students also get an Early Bird discount of EUR 1,500 off first-year tuition for paying in a single instalment by the acceptance deadline, and SAMK pays EUR 3,000 for reaching CEFR B1.2 in Finnish or EUR 1,500 for A2.2, available after at least one academic year. A Student Ambassador Scholarship of EUR 200-500 a year is offered to Bachelor's students active in international work. Everything except the Early Bird is applied for after your studies begin, through SAMK's Oiva student intranet. None of it covers living costs, insurance, flights or the Finnish residence permit — plan on EUR 700-900 a month in Pori or Rauma.

Apply for the degree through Finland's joint application system (Studyinfo) in January for the autumn intake. All scholarships except the Early Bird are applied for through the Oiva intranet after studies begin — confirm current fees on samk.fi

Who awards it

SAMK - Satakunta University of Applied Sciences — not Lanka Scholar. We are not the awarding body and cannot grant, reserve or guarantee this award.

how_to_reg

How you are considered

Through your admission application. Awards like this are usually assessed automatically from the application you already submit — there is typically no separate scholarship form to fill in.

payments

What it covers

50% Annual Tuition Refund + EUR 1,500 Early Bird + Finnish Language Awards. This is a reduction in tuition, not a full ride. You still fund the remainder, plus living costs and the balance your visa requires you to show.

handshake

Where we come in

We make the admission application strong enough to be competitive — course choice, documents, references and deadlines. The funder makes the decision.

fact_check Eligibility Criteria

public

Non-EU/EEA Fee Payer

Sri Lankan nationals pay the international tuition of EUR 9,500 a year for most English-taught degrees, or EUR 10,500 for Data Engineering (AI), Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics. These awards reduce that.

trending_up

60 ECTS, 3.5 Average, Top Fifth

The 50% refund requires all three: a full 60 credits in the academic year, a weighted average of 3.5 or above, and ranking among the best fifth of students in the whole degree programme. The ranking clause makes this genuinely competitive.

payments

Early Bird Requires a Single Payment

New Bachelor's students get EUR 1,500 off first-year tuition, but only if the fee is paid in one instalment by the acceptance deadline. Instalments forfeit the discount.

Finnish Language Awards

EUR 3,000 for reaching CEFR B1.2 or EUR 1,500 for A2.2, payable after at least the first academic year. A Student Ambassador Scholarship of EUR 200-500 a year is also open to Bachelor's students active in international activities.

account_tree Application Process

1

Apply through Studyinfo in January

SAMK's English-taught degrees are applied for through Finland's joint application portal. Complete any entrance exam or selection task required for your programme.

2

Pay in full by the acceptance deadline

To capture the EUR 1,500 Early Bird discount, pay the first-year tuition in a single instalment by the deadline in your acceptance letter. Arrange the transfer capacity in advance.

3

Apply for the Finnish residence permit

Apply via Migri with your admission letter, tuition receipt, proof of living funds and insurance. Do not delay — permit processing from Sri Lanka takes months.

4

Apply for scholarships through Oiva after arrival

All scholarships other than the Early Bird are applied for through SAMK's Oiva student intranet once studies have started. Track your credits and grade average from day one.

5

Start Finnish early

The EUR 3,000 B1.2 award is realistic over three or four years if you begin in your first semester. It also materially improves your chances of staying and working in Finland after graduation.
