Malta Get Qualified Scheme

The Get Qualified Scheme is a Maltese government initiative that gives back up to 70% of the cost of an eligible accredited course in the form of a tax credit, once the qualification is completed. It is designed to upskill Malta's workforce in priority areas. We list it for transparency, but most Sri Lankan students applying from home will NOT qualify: the benefit is a tax credit set against Maltese income tax, so you need to be tax-resident in Malta and earning a Maltese income to actually use it. It is realistically relevant only if you already live and work in Malta (for example, after moving there) and then study an eligible course. If you don't have a Malta tax basis, a university merit scholarship or fee reduction (such as those at the University of Malta, AUM, or MCAST) is a far more useful target. We'll tell you honestly whether Get Qualified can ever benefit your situation.

Maltese Tax Residency Needed

The benefit is delivered as a credit against Maltese income tax. To actually use it you must be liable for Maltese tax — meaning you live and earn in Malta. Sri Lankan students applying from home without a Malta tax basis generally cannot benefit.

school

Eligible Accredited Course

The course must be on the list of eligible, accredited qualifications and successfully completed. Only then is the tax credit claimable.

event

Completion-Based

The credit is granted after you finish and pass the qualification — it is a reimbursement mechanism, not upfront funding, so you pay course costs first.

Honest Fit Assessment

If you intend to relocate to Malta, work, and then study, Get Qualified may help. If you're a typical overseas applicant, we'll steer you to a university merit scholarship instead — we won't oversell a scheme you can't use.

account_tree Application Process

1

Check tax-residency reality first

Before anything else, confirm whether you will be a Maltese tax resident during/after the course. If not, this scheme is not a practical funding route for you.

2

Choose an eligible accredited course

Verify your intended programme is on the Get Qualified eligible-course list with Malta Enterprise.

3

Study and pay fees

Enrol and pay your course costs. Keep all receipts and documentation, as the credit is claimed on completion.

4

Claim the tax credit

After completing the qualification, submit the Get Qualified claim to Malta Enterprise; the approved credit is then set against your Maltese tax liability.

About Get Qualified

Get Qualified is a workforce-development tax incentive in Malta, not a conventional scholarship. It rewards people already inside the Maltese tax system for completing accredited qualifications. For most Sri Lankan applicants, university merit scholarships are the right path — but we keep this listing so you understand the real Maltese funding landscape.
