Endeavour Scholarship Scheme
The Endeavour Scholarship Scheme is a Maltese government postgraduate funding programme co-financed by the European Social Fund (ESF) and administered by Malta's Ministry for Education. It supports Master's (Group A) and doctoral (Group B) study with maintenance grants and a contribution toward fees. Importantly, Endeavour is primarily designed for students who are resident in Malta and meet ESF eligibility rules, and most calls require applicants to be following a course at a Maltese higher-education institution or, for some streams, abroad while ordinarily resident in Malta. For Sri Lankan applicants this is best treated as a scheme to investigate once you are studying in Malta or have a residency basis — it is not an open-to-all international scholarship like a direct university bursary. Always read the specific open call: eligibility, funded amounts, and abroad-vs-Malta rules change with each ESF programming round.

Residency-Based Eligibility
Endeavour calls are framed around ESF eligibility — applicants are generally expected to be resident in Malta or following accredited study linked to Malta. Sri Lankan applicants without a Malta residency basis usually do not qualify under most calls; verify against the current open call before applying.
Accredited Postgraduate Course
You must be following (or about to follow) an accredited Master's or doctoral programme. Group A covers taught/research Master's; Group B covers doctoral degrees. Programmes must be at MQF Level 7 or 8.
Academic and Course Conditions
Applicants must meet the academic entry requirements of their postgraduate course and the scheme's progress conditions. Funding is tied to continued enrolment and satisfactory academic progress.
Read the Specific Open Call
Funded amounts, the abroad-vs-Malta split, and eligibility differ between calls and ESF programming periods. Because the rules are detailed and change, confirm everything against the official Endeavour call document for your intended start date.

Confirm your eligibility basis first
Before anything else, check the current Endeavour open call to confirm whether your situation (residency, course location) qualifies. This scheme is not a general international award — eligibility is the first gate.
Secure admission to an accredited course
Obtain or hold an offer for an eligible Master's or doctoral programme at MQF Level 7/8, as required by the relevant Group (A or B).
Submit the Endeavour application
Apply through the Maltese Ministry for Education's Endeavour portal during the open call, attaching transcripts, your offer/enrolment proof, CV, and the documents listed in the call.
Assessment and award agreement
Successful applicants sign a grant agreement setting out maintenance, fee contribution, instalments, and obligations. Disbursement and any return/work conditions follow the agreement terms.
Why study postgraduate in Malta?
Malta is an English-teaching EU member state with low tuition and living costs and a growing research base. Government schemes like Endeavour, co-financed by the European Social Fund, channel EU structural funding into postgraduate study — strongest for those with a residency or in-Malta study basis.
