LUT University Bachelor's Scholarship for International Students
LUT University (Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology) is a Finnish science university focused on technology and business, with a strong reputation in energy, sustainability, and engineering. It offers tuition scholarships to international Bachelor's students entering its English-taught programmes — tiered from a 30% tuition reduction up to a full 100% waiver, awarded on academic merit. For Sri Lankan A-Level science students this is one of the more accessible and generous undergraduate routes into Finland, a country with an outstanding reputation for education and engineering. A top-tier award can make the tuition essentially free, leaving living costs (and Finland is reasonable by Nordic standards) as the main expense. Finland also offers good post-study options for graduates. We help you target the highest award tier and model the LKR living-cost budget.

info How this award actually works
Who awards it
LUT University — not Lanka Scholar. We are not the awarding body and cannot grant, reserve or guarantee this award.
How you are considered
Through your admission application. Awards like this are usually assessed automatically from the application you already submit — there is typically no separate scholarship form to fill in.
What it covers
30%-100% Tuition Scholarship. This is a reduction in tuition, not a full ride. You still fund the remainder, plus living costs and the balance your visa requires you to show.
Where we come in
We make the admission application strong enough to be competitive — course choice, documents, references and deadlines. The funder makes the decision.
fact_check Eligibility Criteria
Admission to an English-taught Bachelor
You must apply to and be admitted to an English-taught Bachelor at LUT for autumn 2026 entry. Sri Lankan applicants need a completed secondary qualification (A-Levels or equivalent) with strong results, especially in mathematics and science for the technology programmes.
Merit-Tiered Award
The scholarship percentage is set by academic merit in the admissions assessment / entrance evaluation. The strongest applicants earn the 100% tuition waiver; others receive 30-50%. Strong grades are the direct lever.
Renewable on Progress
The tuition scholarship continues for subsequent years provided you make satisfactory academic progress (sufficient credits each year). Falling behind can reduce or end the award, so plan to study full-time.
English Proficiency
Programmes are taught in English; you'll need IELTS 6.0-6.5 or equivalent. Sri Lankan applicants from an English-medium schooling background usually qualify via MOI waiver where LUT accepts it, or via a recognised exemption.
account_tree Application Process
Apply via Studyinfo
Submit your Bachelor's application through Finland's national Studyinfo portal in the January 2027 round, attaching transcripts, your secondary qualification, and proof of English. Some programmes require an entrance exam or assessment.
Entrance assessment
Complete any required entrance examination or assessment. Performance here, together with your prior grades, determines both admission and scholarship tier.
Receive admission + scholarship offer
Admitted applicants are informed of their tuition-scholarship percentage in the offer. Confirm acceptance by the stated deadline.
Enrol and apply for a Finnish residence permit
Accept your place and apply for the Finnish student residence permit, showing funds for living costs. LUT supports international arrivals with permit guidance and orientation.

Looking for a scholarship because of the cost?
Then start here instead. Scholarships are competitive, usually partial, and decided by someone else — they are the least reliable way to make studying abroad affordable. Your destination and course choice move the number far more, and both are entirely within your control.
