Åbo Akademi University Bachelor's Scholarship
Åbo Akademi University in Turku is Finland's internationally oriented Swedish-language university, but it runs a number of English-taught Bachelor's programmes and offers tuition scholarships to fee-paying international undergraduates — typically covering 50% up to a full 100% of tuition, based on academic merit. For Sri Lankan students this is another accessible Finnish undergraduate route: a strong applicant can secure a full tuition waiver, reducing the cost to living expenses in a safe, English-friendly coastal city. Åbo Akademi is research-active in areas such as biosciences, chemical engineering, and information technology. The scholarship is usually renewable on satisfactory progress. We help you target the highest tier and plan the LKR living-cost budget realistically.

info How this award actually works
Who awards it
Åbo Akademi University — not Lanka Scholar. We are not the awarding body and cannot grant, reserve or guarantee this award.
How you are considered
Through your admission application. Awards like this are usually assessed automatically from the application you already submit — there is typically no separate scholarship form to fill in.
What it covers
50%-100% Tuition Scholarship. This is a reduction in tuition, not a full ride. You still fund the remainder, plus living costs and the balance your visa requires you to show.
Where we come in
We make the admission application strong enough to be competitive — course choice, documents, references and deadlines. The funder makes the decision.
fact_check Eligibility Criteria
Admission to an English-taught Bachelor
You must apply to and be admitted to one of Åbo Akademi's English-taught Bachelor programmes for autumn 2026 entry. Sri Lankan applicants need a completed secondary qualification (A-Levels or equivalent) with good results relevant to the chosen field.
Merit-Based Tier
The scholarship percentage is awarded on academic merit through the admissions and entrance assessment. The strongest applicants receive a full 100% tuition waiver; others receive 50%.
Renewable on Progress
The tuition scholarship continues into later years provided you earn the required credits each year. Maintaining full-time progress is essential to keep the award.
English Proficiency
Selected programmes are taught in English; you'll need IELTS 6.0-6.5 or equivalent. Sri Lankan applicants from an English-medium schooling background usually qualify via MOI waiver where Åbo Akademi accepts it, or via a recognised exemption.

Looking for a scholarship because of the cost?
Then start here instead. Scholarships are competitive, usually partial, and decided by someone else — they are the least reliable way to make studying abroad affordable. Your destination and course choice move the number far more, and both are entirely within your control.
