Laurea University of Applied Sciences Scholarship

Laurea runs campuses across the Greater Helsinki region — Espoo, Vantaa, Kerava, Hyvinkää and Lohja — which is the practical selling point: you are inside Finland's largest labour market rather than in a remote university town, and Laurea's degrees are built around Learning by Developing, where coursework is delivered through real projects with employer partners. English-taught Bachelor's programmes include business management, service design, nursing, security management and restaurant entrepreneurship. Non-EU tuition sits around €9,500-11,000 a year and the scholarship covers 50-100% of it, renewed annually against credit completion. Nursing is worth flagging specifically for Sri Lankan applicants: Finland has a documented shortage of registered nurses, and a Finnish nursing degree leads to registration with Valvira, though Finnish language competence becomes essential for clinical practice.

account_tree Application Process

1

Apply through Studyinfo in January

Finland runs a single national application portal with a strict January deadline for the August intake. There is no late submission and no rolling admission.

2

Prepare for and sit the entrance exam

Register during the application window. Preparation materials are published in advance; candidates who work through them consistently outperform those who do not.

3

Submit certified documents

  • Officially certified A-Level or equivalent certificates
  • Passport copy and English proficiency evidence
  • Any prior diploma transcripts for credit assessment
4

Accept the offer and confirm the waiver band

The scholarship band is stated in the offer. Confirm the annual ECTS threshold required to keep it and plan your first-year study load accordingly.

5

Residence permit and arrival

Apply to Migri for the student residence permit with proof of funds and health insurance. Allow two to three months from Sri Lanka, and note that student residence permits allow up to 30 hours a week of work.

Why Laurea?

Laurea teaches around 8,000 students across five campuses in the Greater Helsinki region and is known nationally for its Learning by Developing pedagogy, where students work on live projects with companies and public organisations from the first year. Being inside the Helsinki metropolitan area gives students direct access to Finland's deepest job market for placements and post-graduation employment.
