Course Overview
The PhD in Civil Engineering at the University of Auckland is delivered through the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering — the oldest and largest engineering department in New Zealand, consistently ranked #1 in NZ and top-100 globally (QS, Shanghai). Entry Requirements
Academic

Career Outcomes & PR
Post-Study Work Visa of up to 3 years gives PhD graduates strong NZ labour-market access. Civil Engineering is on NZ's Green List (residence-from-work eligible after 24 months), so PhD-graduate civil engineers move to PR within 2-3 years post-graduation. UoA Civil PhDs route into senior engineering roles at Beca, Tonkin + Taylor, WSP NZ, Aurecon, Jacobs NZ, Fletcher Construction, Naylor Love, and Auckland Transport / KiwiRail — NZD 95,000-130,000 starting (LKR 18M-25M/yr). Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) registration with Engineering New Zealand is the standard practice credential. Sri Lankan returnees take senior posts at the Road Development Authority, Mahaweli Authority, NBRO, Maga Engineering, Access Engineering, and join EngSL as Chartered Engineers, and academic posts at UoM, UoP, SLIIT, and KDU.
