MSc Global Health
Maastricht University
Course Overview
Maastricht University is internationally known for Problem-Based Learning (PBL), and its one-year, English-taught MSc Global Health is delivered through that small-group, case-driven model. The programme examines health from a global-systems perspective: globalisation and health, health governance, infectious and non-communicable disease control, health equity, and the economics of health systems. It includes an international placement, and Maastricht co-runs the degree within a transnational consortium, so students can spend periods at partner universities abroad — unusually international even by Dutch standards.
Sri Lankan applicants with an MBBS, BSc Nursing, BSc Public Health, BSc Health Promotion, or social-science backgrounds focused on health fit the cohort well, and the PBL format suits clinicians who want active, applied learning rather than lectures. Maastricht sits in the tri-border region near Belgium and Germany, with a low cost of living relative to the Randstad. The Netherlands offers graduates a one-year orientation residence permit, opening routes into international NGOs, WHO/EU agencies, and global-health consultancies.
