Master of Public Health
VU Amsterdam
Course Overview
VU Amsterdam's Master of Public Health (MPH) is delivered through Amsterdam UMC — the joint academic medical center of VU and the University of Amsterdam, one of Europe's largest. The one-year programme is taught 100% in English and is designed for medical professionals, epidemiologists, public-health practitioners, health-policy specialists and global-health researchers from across the world. The curriculum covers epidemiology, biostatistics, health systems and policy, global health, health economics, infectious disease control, environmental and occupational health, plus a 6-month research thesis.
Amsterdam UMC operates strong collaborative ties with WHO Europe, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), Médecins Sans Frontières Amsterdam HQ, the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT), and the major Dutch global-health NGOs (PharmAccess, Cordaid). Sri Lankan medical graduates from UoC, UoP, USJP, Kelaniya and Rajarata medical faculties, plus PGIM alumni, are well represented in the cohort. Most students complete the thesis with one of the Amsterdam global-health partners, and several convert directly into Amsterdam UMC, KIT or PharmAccess research roles.
