Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto
Course Overview
Rotman's Master of Finance is delivered through the University of Toronto's Joseph L. Rotman School of Management — Canada's top-ranked business school (FT Global MBA Ranking, QS) located in downtown Toronto two blocks from Bay Street, Canada's financial centre. The 20-month MFin is structured around three terms of intensive coursework (Financial Theory, Corporate Finance, Derivatives, Portfolio Management, Fixed Income, Financial Engineering) plus a 4-month industry-applied capstone project and a 16-week paid internship at a Bay Street firm. Rotman partners directly with RBC Capital Markets, BMO Capital Markets, CIBC, TD Securities, Scotiabank Global Banking and Markets, Manulife, and the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (OTPP) for student placements. The school is also home to the Rotman Trading Lab — North America's largest academic trading floor with live Bloomberg, Reuters, and Refinitiv access.
Sri Lankan applicants typically reach Rotman MFin after a strong Bachelor's in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or Business from the University of Colombo Faculty of Management, UoM Department of Decision Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura Faculty of Management, or after 1-3 years of finance experience at HSBC Sri Lanka, Standard Chartered Sri Lanka, HNB Treasury, Commercial Bank Treasury, NDB Investment Bank, or CT CLSA Securities. Graduates qualify for the 3-year Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), Toronto's labour-market access is exceptional given the city's status as North America's second-largest financial centre, and the PR pathway via Express Entry is fast for finance professionals. Sri Lankan returnees route into senior treasury / investment banking positions at HSBC Sri Lanka, Standard Chartered, HNB Treasury, Commercial Bank Treasury, NDB Investment Bank, CT CLSA, and Asia Securities.
