MSc Design for the Fashion System
Politecnico di Milano
Course Overview
Politecnico di Milano (Polimi) is consistently #1 in Italy and top 10 globally for Design (QS Subject Rankings 2025) and the world's most influential design school after Royal College of Art London. The School of Design (Scuola del Design) is the largest design faculty in Europe with 4,000+ students across the Bovisa campus in Milan. The MSc Design for the Fashion System is one of Polimi's flagship Master's — taught entirely in English, covering fashion design strategy, branding and communication for fashion, fashion product design, sustainable fashion systems, and a final-year thesis or industry project — typically completed with one of the Milan-based luxury houses (Prada, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Armani, Moncler, Gucci, Bottega Veneta) or fashion-tech firms.
Sri Lankan applicants with backgrounds in Fashion Design, Visual Communication, Architecture, or Textile Engineering (AOD Sri Lanka, Mod Academy, Raffles Design Sri Lanka, UoM Textile and Apparel, University of Moratuwa Faculty of Architecture) target Polimi because Italian public-university tuition is income-tested and capped at €5,000-€8,000/year for international students (well below comparable design Master's at Parsons NYC, RCA London, or Central Saint Martins). Milan is the world capital of fashion — the city's industry network is unmatched, and Polimi has direct degree-show participation at Milan Fashion Week (Settimana della Moda). Italy offers a 12-month post-study residence and EU Blue Card pathway.
