Politecnico di Milano
MSc in Interior and Spatial Design
Politecnico di Milano
Course Overview
Politecnico di Milano's School of Design is ranked among the world's top 10 for Art & Design (QS), and Milan is the global capital of design — home to the Salone del Mobile, the Triennale, and the studios that define contemporary interiors and furniture. The English-taught MSc in Interior and Spatial Design trains designers to shape interior environments, exhibition and retail spaces, temporary architecture, and the relationship between people, objects, and space.
The two-year programme is studio-driven: design ateliers run alongside courses in spatial theory, lighting, materials, set and exhibition design, and digital representation. Projects are frequently developed with Milan's design and manufacturing partners, and the city's design week gives students direct exposure to the brands and practices recruiting from the school. A final thesis project lets you build a portfolio piece pitched at international studios.
For Sri Lankan applicants, Politecnico di Milano is one of the best value-for-prestige routes in Europe: public-university tuition is a fraction of a UK or US equivalent (under €4,000 a year, with substantial fee reductions for lower-income international students), while the qualification carries genuine global weight in the design industry. Italy also offers a 12-month post-study job-search residence permit, opening a path into the EU design market.
