MSc in Architecture
Politecnico di Milano
Course Overview
Politecnico di Milano's MSc in Architecture (Architettura — Architectural Design) is delivered through the School of Architecture Urban Planning Construction Engineering — Italy's largest architecture school and one of Europe's most influential, with alumni including Renzo Piano, Aldo Rossi, and Gio Ponti. PoliMi consistently ranks top-10 globally for Architecture & Built Environment (QS), behind only MIT, the Bartlett (UCL), Delft, ETH Zurich, and Harvard GSD.
Sri Lankan applicants with a BA / BArch from Moratuwa, City School of Architecture, or NDT use the PoliMi MSc as a route into the European architectural practice landscape. Milan is the European design capital — Salone del Mobile, the design district at 5VIE, and design studios (Stefano Boeri, Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, Park Associati, Piuarch) sit alongside global firms (Foster + Partners Milan, Kengo Kuma Italy, Bjarke Ingels Group). The two-year MSc covers architectural design studios, building technology, structures, urban planning, history & theory, and a master's thesis (research-led or design-led). Studios are project-intensive; expect long hours and a substantial portfolio output.
