Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Biotechnology)
Monash University
Course Overview
Monash's Bachelor of Biomedical Science is ranked top 30 globally for Biomedical Sciences (QS by Subject) and is delivered out of the Clayton campus — adjacent to the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute (ARMI), the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (BDI), and CSL Behring's Melbourne R&D headquarters. The Biotechnology major lets students focus on molecular biotechnology, bioinformatics, fermentation and bioprocess engineering, and translational medical biotechnology — with a 12-credit research project in Year 3 typically completed inside a working ARMI or BDI lab.
Sri Lankan applicants choose Monash Biomed because Melbourne is Australia's biotech capital — home to CSL (the world's third-largest biotech), Mesoblast, Cochlear, and the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute. Graduates are eligible for the 485 Temporary Graduate Visa for 2 years post-study, and the Biotechnology major routes cleanly into Honours Year 4 (an entry point for the Monash PhD programme) or directly into Master's pathways at Cambridge, Imperial, and Johns Hopkins.
