The WU Vienna Merit-Based Scholarship is a recurring semester-by-semester award for outstanding students enrolled at WU Vienna University of Economics and Business. Amounts range from €500 to €1,500 per semester depending on academic performance, with awards renewable as long as you maintain the required GPA threshold. Unlike entry-level scholarships, this one is open to enrolled students — Master's and PhD candidates apply once they have at least one full semester of WU transcripts. Active WU Vienna Enrolment

You must be currently enrolled at WU Vienna in a Bachelor's (after first semester), Master's, or PhD programme. New entry-year applicants are not eligible — apply from your second semester onward with at least one full WU transcript.

Complete your first WU semester and obtain a full transcript showing GPA. You cannot apply for this scholarship as an incoming student — it rewards performance at WU specifically.

Apply each semester via the WU portal

Submit your application via the WU online scholarship portal during the application window each semester (typically October for winter semester results, March for summer semester results). Required: current transcript, CV, motivation letter.

GPA-based ranking

WU's Vice-Rector's office ranks all applicants strictly by GPA within each programme. Top performers receive the higher tier (€1,500); next tier receives €1,000; broader tier receives €500. Tier cut-offs vary by programme size.

Award + reapplication

Awards are paid as a lump sum each semester. Reapply each semester you wish to be considered — there is no automatic renewal. Combine with the OeAD Ernst Mach Grant or external awards as funding rules permit.
