The Wageningen Excellence Scholarship covers full tuition (~EUR 23,000/year = LKR 7.9M/year) plus a one-time travel allowance of EUR 5,000 and health insurance for outstanding international Master's applicants. The scholarship is highly competitive — typically 30-40 awards per year across the university's 30+ Master's programmes. Sri Lankan applicants with backgrounds in agriculture (a major Sri Lankan sector), food technology, environmental science, or biology are exceptionally well-positioned given Wageningen's research priorities and the country's agricultural strengths.

Wageningen Master's Admission

Apply to Wageningen Master's by 1 December

Submit your Wageningen Master's application via the online portal by 1 December 2026 (significantly earlier than the standard Master's deadline of 1 April). The earlier deadline is required for scholarship consideration.

Submit scholarship application

Within your Master's application, indicate that you wish to be considered for the Wageningen Excellence Scholarship. Submit additional motivation essay (500-700 words) explaining how your research interests align with Wageningen's strengths.

Selection by Excellence Committee

The Wageningen Excellence Selection Committee (faculty representatives) reviews applications. Decisions are typically communicated in March-April. The committee considers academic record (40%), research alignment (30%), motivation (20%), and reference quality (10%).

Acceptance + Dutch visa

Successful applicants accept the scholarship via the Wageningen portal. The Student Service Centre handles MVV entry visa and residence permit applications through IND. Wageningen offers extensive housing support — important since Wageningen town has a tight rental market.
