University of Sharjah Scholarships and Distinction Discount

The University of Sharjah is one of the largest universities in the Emirates, teaching medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, engineering, law, business and the sciences on a purpose-built campus in Sharjah, about 30 minutes from central Dubai. Its funding comes in two distinct forms and it is worth separating them. First, scholarships proper: UOS grants these on academic merit under a published scholarship policy, providing full or partial tuition coverage for the standard duration of the programme, subject to the eligibility conditions in that policy. Second, and more predictable, the distinction discount: high-performing registered students receive a 30% discount applied to their semester tuition fee on registration, and to keep it in subsequent semesters they must maintain a term GPA of 3.4 or higher. There is also a 10% sibling discount across undergraduate programmes. For a Sri Lankan student, the practical significance is that the distinction discount is a recurring, rules-based reduction you can plan for as long as you perform, rather than a one-off competitive award. Two honest points. Sharjah is a more conservative emirate than Dubai — alcohol is not sold and the social environment is stricter, which suits some students and not others. And these are tuition reductions only: accommodation, the UAE student residence visa, Emirates ID, medical insurance, transport and flights are all separate costs, and there is no automatic post-study work route in the UAE.
