ATU Global Excellence Scholarship
The ATU Global Excellence Scholarship is the top tier of Atlantic Technological University's non-EU scholarship ladder: a EUR 6,000 fee discount, awarded competitively and in limited numbers to undergraduate applicants with a minimum CGPA above 85 per cent and IELTS 7.0 with no component below 6.5. Those are demanding thresholds, and they are the whole story — this is not an award you receive for being international, it is one you receive for being near the top of the applicant field. ATU spans campuses across the west and north-west of Ireland, in Galway, Sligo, Letterkenny, Donegal, Mayo and Killybegs, with strengths in engineering, computing, science, business and hospitality. It is worth knowing the rest of ATU's ladder before you apply, because you may qualify automatically for something smaller: the ATU Global Entry Scholarship gives a EUR 3,000 fee discount to students whose country of origin has a GDP per capita of USD 12,500 or less, a band that comfortably includes Sri Lanka, and a EUR 2,000 discount to those between USD 12,500 and USD 25,000. There is also a EUR 4,000 Global Merit Entry Scholarship at a slightly lower academic threshold. Ask ATU's international office which awards can be combined and which are alternatives before you build your budget.

info How this award actually works
Who awards it
Atlantic Technological University — not Lanka Scholar. We are not the awarding body and cannot grant, reserve or guarantee this award.
How you are considered
Through your admission application. Awards like this are usually assessed automatically from the application you already submit — there is typically no separate scholarship form to fill in.
What it covers
EUR 6,000 Fee Discount. This is a reduction in tuition, not a full ride. You still fund the remainder, plus living costs and the balance your visa requires you to show.
Where we come in
We make the admission application strong enough to be competitive — course choice, documents, references and deadlines. The funder makes the decision.
fact_check Eligibility Criteria
Non-EU Applicant
The award sits on ATU's non-EU scholarship scheme. Sri Lankan citizens paying the international fee are eligible; there is no country shortlist for this particular tier.
Minimum CGPA Above 85%
This is the highest academic bar on ATU's ladder. Sri Lankan applicants should get their transcript's grading scale documented so an 85 per cent equivalent can be established clearly — a First Class result generally maps into range.
IELTS 7.0 With No Component Below 6.5
The English requirement for this tier is high and specific. Unlike ATU's general entry requirement, an MOI letter is unlikely to substitute here — plan to sit IELTS and aim above the minimum.
Limited and Competitively Awarded
ATU states that a limited number of these awards are available and that they are competitively awarded. Apply early in the admissions cycle rather than close to the intake.
Check the Lower Tiers Too
ATU also runs a EUR 4,000 Global Merit Entry Scholarship and a GDP-tiered Global Entry Scholarship worth EUR 3,000 for countries with GDP per capita of USD 12,500 or less — a band that includes Sri Lanka. Ask the Global Office which of these you qualify for and whether any can be combined.

Looking for a scholarship because of the cost?
Then start here instead. Scholarships are competitive, usually partial, and decided by someone else — they are the least reliable way to make studying abroad affordable. Your destination and course choice move the number far more, and both are entirely within your control.
