Course Overview
PoliTo's MSc in Mechanical Engineering is one of the most direct routes for Sri Lankan engineers into Italy's automotive and industrial-machinery employers. Two years in English at the Turin campus, with specialisation tracks covering Automotive, Production, Industrial Design, Energy and Aeronautical / Aerospace. PoliTo is consistently QS top-50 globally for Engineering and shares industrial laboratories with Stellantis, Iveco, GE Aviation, Avio Aero, and Leonardo.
The Master's thesis is typically completed inside an industrial partner — a paid 6-month placement at Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pirelli, Stellantis, or smaller firms across Piedmont's Motor Valley supply chain. Sri Lankan applicants with a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Moratuwa, Peradeniya, Ruhuna, or SLIIT fit cleanly. Tuition is on Italy's ISEE-based progressive scale and low-ISEE families pay closer to €600–€1,200/year.
Entry Requirements
Academic
- check_circle Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing, Production, or closely-related field — Sri Lankan SLQF Level 6 with a GPA equivalent to 2nd-Upper or better.
- check_circle Strong grounding in mechanics, thermodynamics, materials, manufacturing processes, and CAD — transcripts are scrutinised by the admissions board.
- check_circle Statement of purpose, CV, and 2 academic references.
- check_circle GRE not required.
English Proficiency
- check_circle IELTS Academic: 6.0 Overall (min 5.5 in each section).
- check_circle TOEFL iBT: 78 Overall.
- check_circle Cambridge B2 First (FCE) or higher.
- check_circle Waived if your Bachelor's was taught entirely in English at a recognised institution (Sri Lankan English-medium engineering degrees from Moratuwa, Peradeniya, etc. qualify).

Career Outcomes & PR
PoliTo MSc Mechanical graduates are eligible for Italy's 12-month post-study residence permit and EU Blue Card path. Direct placement into Ferrari, Lamborghini, Ducati, Fiat-Stellantis, Pirelli, Iveco, Avio Aero, GE Aviation, and Leonardo is well-established — PoliTo's industrial network is one of the strongest in continental Europe. Sri Lankan returnees take senior engineering positions at MAS Holdings (engineering division), Brandix, Hayleys Advantis, Lanka Tractors, Hemas Manufacturing, and the Sri Lanka Air Force engineering wing.
