MSc Automotive Engineering
Politecnico di Torino
Course Overview
Politecnico di Torino is Italy's leading technical university for automotive engineering, located in Turin — the historic home of Fiat, the heart of the Italian motor industry and the European motorsport supply chain. Its English-taught MSc Automotive Engineering is one of the few dedicated automotive Master's in Europe and sits beside live partnerships with FCA / Stellantis, Ferrari, Iveco and the regional automotive cluster. For Sri Lankan engineering graduates from Moratuwa, Peradeniya, SLIIT or KDU, PoliTo combines genuine global prestige in the field with strikingly low Italian public-university fees.
The two-year programme covers vehicle dynamics, powertrain design, electric and hybrid vehicles, automotive electronics and design, with a strong project and thesis component often run inside an industry partner. Italy's public tuition is income-banded and low (typically €1,000-€3,000/year for non-EU students depending on means), and Italy offers a 12-month post-study residence permit to job-search — making this one of the most cost-effective routes into automotive engineering anywhere.

Career Outcomes & PR
PoliTo graduates qualify for Italy's 12-month post-study residence permit to job-search, with an EU Blue Card / PR pathway on a qualifying offer. The Turin automotive cluster — Stellantis (Fiat), Ferrari, Iveco, Pininfarina, Brembo, and a deep motorsport supply chain — recruits directly from the programme, alongside German OEMs (BMW, VW, Audi). Automotive-engineer starting salaries run €30k-€40k in Italy, higher in Germany. Sri Lankan returnees route into automotive, manufacturing and consulting roles, and academia at Moratuwa and SLIIT.
