Course Overview
Luleå University of Technology's Master Programme in International Business is a two-year, 120-credit programme taught entirely in English on the Luleå campus. It leads to a Master of Science with a major in Business Administration, specialising in International Business, and combines international relations, business administration, marketing and sustainability. Compulsory courses include cross-cultural management, global marketing strategy and business theory, with electives in AI, entrepreneurship and strategic marketing, and the second year finishes with a master's thesis.
At SEK 40,000 per semester, this is one of the most affordable business master's for non-EU students at a Swedish public university, well below typical Swedish business-school fees. Around 15 places are offered to international students. It suits Sri Lankan business, commerce and management graduates from Colombo, Sri Jayewardenepura, Kelaniya, Peradeniya, SLIIT, NSBM or CINEC who want an international marketing or business-development career. Northern Sweden is in the middle of a green-industry boom in fossil-free steel, batteries and mining, and Sweden lets graduates stay up to 12 months after their studies to look for work.
Entry Requirements
Academic
- check_circle A bachelor's degree of at least 180 ECTS credits (or equivalent) including at least 60 ECTS in business administration or a related field.
- check_circle Alternatively, at least four years of documented management-level work experience with financial responsibility.
- check_circle Sri Lankan BBA, BCom, BBM and management graduates from Colombo, Sri Jayewardenepura, Kelaniya, Peradeniya, SLIIT, NSBM or CINEC are well matched.
- check_circle Apply through universityadmissions.se (mid-October to January 15) with certified transcripts and degree certificate.
English Proficiency
- check_circle English 6 (the Swedish upper-secondary standard) is required.
- check_circle IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with no section below 5.5, or an equivalent TOEFL iBT result.
- check_circle Waived if you passed English as an A-level subject — universityadmissions.se accepts an A-level in English from Sri Lankan upper-secondary studies, documented with your A/L certificate.

Career Outcomes & PR
Sweden lets non-EU graduates apply for a residence permit of up to 12 months after their studies to look for work or start a business, with a route to a work permit and, over time, permanent residence. LTU International Business graduates work in marketing, project management and business development for international companies, organisations and public bodies. Northern Sweden's industrial transformation (LKAB, SSAB, Stegra's green-steel project in Boden, and the region's mining and energy firms) is creating demand for commercially minded graduates. Sri Lankan returnees fit export marketing, business-development and international-trade roles at John Keells, Hayleys, MAS, Dilmah and the Export Development Board.
