MSc in Industrial Engineering and Management
LUT University
Course Overview
LUT University's MSc in Industrial Engineering and Management is delivered through the LUT School of Engineering Science at the Lappeenranta campus. LUT is one of Finland's three dedicated technical universities and is particularly known for sustainability research and energy-intensive process industries. The 2-year, 120-ECTS programme integrates engineering management with business modules: operations management, supply chain management, business analytics, technology and innovation management, sustainable manufacturing, project management, plus a substantial Master's thesis often with an industrial partner.
Sri Lankan applicants from engineering Bachelor's backgrounds (UoM, Peradeniya, Ruhuna, KDU, OUSL, SLIIT, NSBM, NIBM) — particularly mechanical, production, manufacturing, electrical, or chemical engineers wanting to move into management or consulting — treat this MSc as a fast route. LUT's lower tuition (€12,000/yr) and Lappeenranta's lower living costs (€9,000-€11,000/yr) make total spend significantly lower than Helsinki / Espoo options. Finland's 2-year post-study job-search residence permit (one of the longest in the EU) and the EU Blue Card pathway make permanent EU mobility realistic. Returnees route into operations, supply chain, and management consulting roles at MAS Holdings, Brandix, John Keells Engineering, Hayleys, Aitken Spence, Unilever SL, plus Big Four advisory practices.
