MSc Logic and Computation
TU Wien
Course Overview
TU Wien's MSc Logic and Computation is a specialised English-taught computer science master's delivered through the Faculty of Informatics — Austria's largest CS faculty and consistently ranked top-100 globally (QS, THE). TU Wien (formerly Vienna University of Technology) is Austria's oldest technical university (founded 1815) and is internationally recognised for theoretical computer science, formal verification, and automated reasoning — the Vienna Center for Logic and Algorithms (VCLA) and the Logic & Computation Research Cluster make this department a global node for the field.
Sri Lankan applicants with strong mathematical / CS bachelor's backgrounds (Moratuwa, Colombo UCSC, SLIIT) use the Logic and Computation MSc as a route into European deep-tech and academia. The programme covers theoretical CS (computability, complexity, logic), formal methods, automated reasoning, database theory, knowledge representation, computational logic for AI, and a substantial master's thesis — typically completed in collaboration with TU Wien research groups working on SAT solving, model checking, or knowledge-based AI. Tuition at TU Wien is the standard Austrian public rate (€726.72/semester for non-EU students).
Entry Requirements
Academic

Career Outcomes & PR
TU Wien CS graduates qualify for Austria's 12-month post-study residence permit, with conversion to the Red-White-Red Card or EU Blue Card at a qualifying offer (~€48,000/year graduate threshold for 2026; IT roles routinely clear this). Major employers: Bitpanda (Vienna-based unicorn), Anyline, TTTech, Frequentis, Magna Powertrain, Erste Group IT, Raiffeisen Bank International IT, Siemens Austria, Microsoft Vienna, Google Vienna, and the Austrian Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence (OFAI). Strong PhD-track for graduates entering academia — TU Wien itself, ETH Zurich, EPFL, MPI Saarbrücken. Sri Lankan returnees route into senior R&D / ML / formal-methods roles at WSO2, IFS R&D, Virtusa, MillenniumIT, Sysco LABS, and the Lanka AI Hub.
