Course Overview
ANU’s Master of Computing is a 2-year coursework program at the School of Computing, designed for graduates of any discipline who want a deep technical foundation in software systems, machine learning, data analytics or cyber security. Sri Lankan students with a non-CS bachelor’s (engineering, mathematics, science) are explicitly welcomed.
The program is on Australia’s Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List under ICT occupations — which means ANU Computing graduates have one of the cleanest pathways from the 485 Temporary Graduate Visa to permanent residency via skilled migration.
Entry Requirements
Academic
- check_circle Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university with a minimum credit average (GPA 5.0/7.0 or roughly 65%+).
- check_circle Some prior programming exposure preferred but not mandatory — the program has a built-in foundational stream.
- check_circle Statement of purpose explaining technical interest area.
English Proficiency
- check_circle IELTS Academic: 6.5 Overall (min 6.0 in each band).
- check_circle TOEFL iBT: 80 Overall (min 20 in Reading and Writing).
- check_circle PTE Academic: 64 Overall (min 55 in each section).

Career Outcomes & PR
ICT roles are on the Skilled Occupation List, giving Computing graduates a direct path from the 485 Temporary Graduate Visa (up to 3 years) to permanent residency. ANU Computing alumni place into Atlassian, Canva, Google Sydney, Macquarie Bank, and federal cyber roles at the Australian Signals Directorate.
