Aalto University
Course Overview
Aalto University's MSc Computer Science is the flagship CS master's at Finland's leading technology university — Aalto consistently ranks top-100 globally for Computer Science (QS, THE) and is the alma mater of Nokia's engineering heritage. The 2-year programme runs at the Otaniemi (Espoo) campus, 20 minutes by metro from central Helsinki, in one of Europe's densest deep-tech corridors (Nokia, Supercell, Wolt, Rovio, Reaktor, Futurice, F-Secure all maintain large engineering operations within walking distance of campus).
Sri Lankan applicants from CS / SE / IT bachelor's backgrounds (Moratuwa, Colombo UCSC, SLIIT, NSBM) use the Aalto MSc as a route into Nordic and European tech roles. Five specialisation majors are offered: Algorithms, Logic, and Computation; Computer Science (general); Software Systems and Technologies; Web, Mobile and Database Programming; Human-Computer Interaction and Design. The curriculum combines theoretical CS depth with strong applied programming, ML, distributed systems, and HCI tracks. The mandatory master's thesis (30 ECTS) is often completed in collaboration with Aalto's research groups or industry partners (Nokia Bell Labs, Supercell, Nokia Networks).
