Course Overview
TU Delft's MSc Civil Engineering is widely regarded as the world's leading civil engineering programme (QS ranks it #1 globally in the subject most years). The Dutch tradition of water management, large-scale infrastructure, and coastal protection — Delta Works, the Maeslantkering — runs through the curriculum. Sri Lankan students with backgrounds in structural, hydraulic, or transport engineering find a natural fit.
The two-year programme lets you specialise in one of seven tracks: Structural Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Geo-Engineering, Transport & Planning, Environmental Engineering, Building Engineering, or Water Management. The second year is built around a thesis project, frequently embedded with Royal HaskoningDHV, Arcadis, Witteveen+Bos, or Rijkswaterstaat.
Entry Requirements
Academic
- check_circle BSc in Civil Engineering or a closely related field with strong fundamentals in mathematics, mechanics, and fluid dynamics.
- check_circle Minimum GPA equivalent to Dutch 7.0/10 (UK 2:1 / first class).
- check_circle CV, motivation letter explaining track choice, and academic references.
- check_circle Some tracks (Hydraulic, Structural) are selection programmes with a limited intake.
English Proficiency
- check_circle IELTS Academic: 6.5 Overall (min 6.0 in writing).
- check_circle TOEFL iBT: 90 Overall (min 21 in writing).
- check_circle Cambridge C1 Advanced also accepted.
