MSc Automotive Engineering
Technical University of Munich
Course Overview
TUM's MSc Automotive Engineering is a two-year, fully English-taught program at the Garching campus and one of the top-3 automotive masters in Europe. Sri Lankan students take core modules in vehicle dynamics, powertrain, electrified mobility, autonomous driving and production systems, then complete a six-month thesis project — typically at BMW, Audi, Porsche, MAN or one of TUM's research institutes.
Non-EU tuition is €6,000 per semester (introduced Winter 2024/25) plus the €97 semester contribution. Munich is the headquarters of BMW Group, MAN Truck & Bus and a growing EV-startup cluster — the program's industry-mentor scheme pairs every student with a working engineer in their first semester.

Career Outcomes & PR
TUM Automotive graduates are routinely placed at BMW Group, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, MAN Truck & Bus and MTU Aero Engines. Germany's 18-month Job Search Visa converts directly to the EU Blue Card for engineering roles (threshold €48,300, easily cleared), leading to PR in 21-33 months. Median starting salary for new automotive engineers in Bavaria is around €60,000.
