Master of Teaching
OISE, University of Toronto
Course Overview
The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto is ranked #11 globally for Education in QS World Rankings by Subject — Canada's #1 education school. The Master of Teaching is a 2-year combined Master's + teacher certification programme, fully accredited by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT). Graduates earn OCT certification (mandatory to teach in Ontario) alongside an MT research degree. The programme has two divisions: Primary/Junior (Kindergarten-Grade 6) and Intermediate/Senior (Grades 7-12 with two teaching subjects).
Sri Lankan applicants choose OISE MT because Ontario consistently has Canada's highest demand for teachers — particularly in Mathematics, Science, French and Special Education at the Intermediate/Senior level. OCT certification is reciprocally recognised across most Canadian provinces. Graduates qualify for the 3-year Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) and a direct pathway to Permanent Residency via Express Entry (CRS points boost for Canadian credentials + work experience) or the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program.
