Master of Education (MEd)
University of British Columbia
Course Overview
The University of British Columbia's Master of Education (MEd) is delivered by the Faculty of Education — ranked among the world's top 25 for education in the QS subject tables, at a U15 research university and consistently a global top-40 institution. The professionally oriented MEd offers a range of specialisations including curriculum studies, educational leadership and administration, measurement and evaluation, TESL, and educational technology, completed through coursework and a graduating paper or project. Notably, UBC's international graduate tuition for education is among the most affordable of any top-ranked global university, making it strong value for Sri Lankan applicants.
Sri Lankan applicants — practising teachers, lecturers, and education graduates from Colombo, Peradeniya, Kelaniya, Open University, and the National Institute of Education — choose UBC for its research prestige and accessible tuition. An English-medium Bachelor's typically supports an IELTS waiver via an MOI letter. Graduates qualify for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP, up to 3 years), opening Canadian education and EdTech roles and a recognised route toward permanent residence. Returnees route into senior curriculum, leadership, and policy roles at international schools (Colombo International, Gateway, Lyceum, Elizabeth Moir), the National Institute of Education, and university lecturing posts.
