MA History of Art
University of Florence
Course Overview
The University of Florence teaches art history in the birthplace of the Renaissance — a city that is itself the world's greatest collection of art and architecture. Its MA in History of Art (Storia dell'Arte) offers deep study of medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, and modern art, museum and curatorial studies, and heritage conservation, with the Uffizi, the Bargello, the Accademia, and centuries of masterworks serving as living seminar rooms. Florence's centuries-old tradition of art scholarship and restoration makes this one of the most authoritative places on earth to study the discipline.
Sri Lankan applicants passionate about art history, museums, curation, and cultural heritage choose Florence for a globally prestigious degree at Italy's low, income-based public tuition (many internationals pay €1,000-2,000 per year). Graduates from Kelaniya, Peradeniya, or Colombo arts and humanities faculties, or fine-arts backgrounds, are well matched. Italy's 12-month post-study job-seeker permit and EU access open careers in museums, galleries, auction houses, and cultural organisations across Europe — and the qualification is valued in Sri Lanka's own museum and heritage sector.
