Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Business Enterprise
MCAST
Course Overview
Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) is Malta's national vocational higher-education institution and the largest provider of applied degrees in the country. The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Business Enterprise is delivered by the Institute of Business Management and Commerce at MQF and EQF Level 6 — the same level as a UK honours degree — over three full-time years and 180 ECTS, taught face to face and entirely in English.
The programme is built around running and growing a business rather than studying one from a distance. Modules cover entrepreneurship and venture creation, financial and management accounting, marketing and digital marketing, business law, human resource management, operations and supply chain, economics and business analytics. Assessment leans heavily on live projects, business plans and work placements with Maltese employers, and the final year carries a dissertation or an enterprise project taken from idea to trading model.
MCAST publishes a total non-EU tuition figure of €19,500 for this degree — about €6,500 a year — and operates a standing scholarship that exempts the final year's fees on three- and four-year bachelor's degrees, which brings the effective total to around €13,000. That structure should be confirmed with MCAST's international office (MG2i) before you budget on it, because it is a college scheme rather than a statutory entitlement. Even at the full sticker price this is roughly a third of what a comparable UK honours degree costs, for an accredited EU qualification delivered in English.
Applicants coming from Sri Lankan Commerce-stream A/Ls, Cambridge or Edexcel A-Levels, or an AAT or CIMA foundation background fit the profile. MCAST also runs a maturity route for applicants aged 23 or over with relevant experience. Malta's small economy is unusually dense in sectors that hire business graduates — financial services, iGaming, aviation services, shipping and logistics, and tourism — and the island's post-study residence permit gives graduates a window to convert a placement contact into a job.
Entry Requirements
Academic
- check_circle MCAST's stated route is two A-Level passes plus two Intermediate-level passes, with a compulsory A-Level in Accounts, Marketing or Economics. Sri Lankan Cambridge, Edexcel and GCE A/L profiles are mapped against that by MCAST's international office, so confirm your specific subject combination before applying.
- check_circle Alternatively, an MCAST Advanced Diploma in Marketing, Administrative and Secretarial Studies, Finance and Insurance, Financial Services, Insurance, Business Administration, Aviation Operations, or Transportation and Logistics Management gives direct entry.
- check_circle A maturity clause applies for applicants aged 23 or over with relevant business or administrative experience, assessed on portfolio and interview.
- check_circle International applications close on 30 June for the October intake, which is earlier than many European institutions — the visa timeline after that date is tight, so file early.
- check_circle Online application with certified, translated transcripts, passport copy, CV and a short personal statement.
English Proficiency
- check_circle IELTS Academic: 5.5 Overall (CEFR B2 is the stated standard). MCAST publishes no sub-score requirement for this level.
- check_circle TOEFL iBT: 87-109.
- check_circle Cambridge English B2 First, or PTE Academic General Level 3 (59-75).
- check_circle MCAST's own Award in Preparation for English Language Skills (Advanced) at MQF Level 5 also satisfies the requirement and is a route for applicants who fall short.
- check_circle MCAST's English policy lists a medium-of-instruction exemption only for applicants from India — Sri Lanka is not on that list, so plan to sit IELTS rather than rely on an English-medium schooling letter.

Career Outcomes & PR
MCAST names Business Development Manager, HR Manager, Operations Manager, Project Manager, Research Manager and Business Analyst among the roles this degree leads to. Malta grants graduates a post-study residence permit to look for work, converting to a Single Permit once a qualifying job offer is held, and Malta's EU Blue Card salary threshold is among the lowest in the Union. Local employers include the finance, compliance and operations functions of Bank of Valletta, HSBC Malta, MeDirect and the island's fund-administration firms; the commercial and account-management teams of the iGaming operators such as Betsson, Kindred, Tipico and LeoVegas; and logistics, aviation-services and hospitality employers. Graduate starting salaries in Malta typically run €19,000-€26,000. Sri Lankan returnees route into management-trainee and business-analyst positions at John Keells Holdings, Hayleys, MAS Holdings, Brandix, Dialog Axiata and the Big Four advisory practices in Colombo, and the entrepreneurship modules suit students planning to join or scale a family business.
