Course Overview
University of Malta's BCom (Hons) Banking and Finance is delivered through the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy. The 3-year programme combines a generalist BCom foundation (Years 1-2) with focused specialisation in Year 3 covering monetary economics, corporate finance, investment analysis, financial markets and institutions, banking regulation, derivatives, and risk management. Malta is an EU member state with a regulated banking sector and a growing fintech / payments / digital-assets ecosystem (Malta was an early-mover EU jurisdiction for blockchain and VFA legislation).
Sri Lankan A-Level applicants from Commerce or Mathematics streams choose this programme for the combination of EU-recognised qualification, English-medium teaching, and one of the lowest fee tiers in the EU for accredited finance degrees (€9,000/yr). The curriculum aligns with CFA Institute foundation topics and supports parallel ACCA / CIMA exemptions. Returnees route into corporate banking, treasury, and investment roles at HSBC SL, Standard Chartered SL, Commercial Bank, Sampath Bank, NDB, John Keells Capital, CT CLSA, First Capital Holdings, and the Big Four advisory practices in Colombo.

- check_circle Mature applicants (21+) with relevant work experience accepted under a separate route.

- check_circle Waived if your school qualification was taught and assessed entirely in English (most Sri Lankan A-Level / IB applicants qualify with an MOI letter).

Banking and Finance graduates qualify for Malta's 6-month post-study job-search residence permit, with conversion to a Single Permit at a qualifying offer. Malta's EU Blue Card threshold (~€26,000/yr in 2025) is among the lowest in the EU.
